Hi there! I'm looking into getting a Vespa/Piaggo but before I did so I thought I'd come here and see if I can get some answers or tips and what not. I'm confused regarding licensing and insurance-wise aspects. Can anyone fill me in on this? I tried doing some research on the net but I just got myself further confused. As well, would my best bet to get one be at the Vespa Edmonton location? Or are there other places that have more variety. I'm looking into the Granturismo or Piaggo's X9 or Typhoon. Any tips for a beginner into choosing a model? Much appreciated!! Thanks for your time. -Jien

Hello Jien, welcome. What info do you need exactly regarding license and insurance? Alot of places will confuse you because they themselves are confused. They think if it's not a motorcycle it must be a moped. Leads to lots of misinformation. Post your questions and I will try to answer them. Best bike to buy, hmmmm. I have just completed a thorough investigation of makes and models, but my tastes run to a more a classic as opposed to modern style. If you are partial to modern looking bikes, there are a lot to choose from. The Granturismo is a sweet bike and from all I have heard is a dream to ride. The X9 is 500cc and the Typhoon is 50cc so they are very different animals indeed. Go to the Scooter BBS: scooterbbs.com/and check out the International New Scooter site. Lots of great info there from people who love and ride modern scoots. Hope this helps. Cheers, Jeff

ok...
if you want to ride any bike over 50cc, you need a motorcycle license, in which case you choice would be either a Vespa ET2, or perhaps a 50PK, or 50 special (both are vintage bikes <ha!>-NOT auto transmission), if you're planning on buying a twist and go (no changing gears), a vespa isn't the cheapest option, but the new LX is a nice started bike, I think it's a 150....it's smaller in stature than the GT (which is gigantic), and has nicer lines than the ET2+4....
If you're planning on getting your license anyway, try a PX125, 150, 200.....they're very reliable, 2 stroke, zippier........unless of course you don't like working on bikes....
just some things to ponder.
good luck, rouso
