I have a 1960 vespa vgla that was imported, and I have a question about it. On the licence plate bracket, to the upper right, there is a spot to put something. Wondering what is suposed to go there?? Someone told me in Europe, when you are a beginner driver, you have a little plate that you need to put on your bike and that is what the place is for?? Any ideas?? Also where is a good place to get a out of country inspection done, so I can get this bike on the road?? ;D

Hello there, Wow a 1960 vespa VGLA you don't see those very often. Can I ask where you imported it from? I'm not 100% sure about the license plate bracket and what is missing, perhaps it was for a reflector, I know some models were equiped with those. Perhaps some of our other Vespa experts would know. As far as out of province/country inspections, there are a few places in town that do the work, it all depends what side of town you live on? Are you from Edmonton? and what's your name?

My name is Chuck and I am from Millwoods. It could be for a reflector but it is broke off. The bike has some real cool parts on it that I have never seen before. It has 2 chrome bars that start in front of the rear seat, curve around the side cowls and bolt to the floor boards. It also has different chrome trim on the side panels that I have never seen before. Not sure if this stuff is aftermarket from "back in the day" or if it is factory Vespa stuff.

Hey Chuck, was that bike at Top Gear for a while. I remember those chrome panel guards. If I remember correctly, that engine was pretty shot. What are you doing w/ the bike?

Not sure if it was at Top Gear. It might have, bought it from a guy in Leduc. I'm going to restore it, hopefully be done by spring. was thinking of taking it to the rally in Victoria, if I can get it done in time.

Hi Chuck, welcome!
I am wondering if the slot on the license plate holder is for the tax disc, Britain, (and other places in Europe) have to display a proof of tax on the vehicle. This is in the form of a small disc.
Hope you can make it out to one of our meetings.
Cheers, Jeff

...you don't need a tax disk in Canada, leave it empty.

What are some of the things they are looking for. Just the usual( good tires/brakes/light that work?) If that is the case, I should be in good shape. thanks

add suspension and any electrical items to your list.
horn? kill switch? runs properly. You don't want to be stalling all the time in traffic.

Oh and if the mechanic gets this uncontrollable urge to get on your scooter for a test run! Get him to sign a waver.....most of these guys have never riden a Vintage Scooter, before they figure out the brakes and gear shifter they will be on the pavement...
