Hey everyone, should we have a meeting in October? If we do, the first order of business is choosing a new President for the branch/club/whatever you wanna call it. I'm stepping down so someone else needs to take over if you want this thing to continue. Otherwise, we will just turn it into a semi-autonomous collective and say to hell with meetings, dues etc.

Hey Didgeri, Looks like you have a staulker. Be careful it's a jungle out there. Too bad everybody else does not give a shit about the club here in Kelowna. I don't blame you at all for giving up the President's seat. However maybe someone else will have enough balls to take over.OOOOPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I forgot this is Kelowna.

Why do we have to have a president? I will be the "emperor" or maybe a minion. Who could handle all the whoa's of a President of a scooter club in Kelowna. I think the first order of business shall be that every one must have "vintage anything besides lambretta/vespa" like a NSU to be a member. Yeah I would be into a get together a few notes of interest and rally stuff and scootering in general.

You mean only people who have a vintage scooter other than a Vespa or Lambretta will be allowed to join? That's pretty much you and Kevin. The reason you need a President, Potentate, Grand Poobah, Pukka Sahib etc. is to ensure that there is an agenda for the meeting and something actually gets done. The President should attend every meeting, and if they can't be there, the Vice President had better be. Otherwise, everyone ends up sitting around, shooting the shit and nothing gets done. Sort of like having a meeting at work without a facilitator, agenda, and so on. Eventually, people stop coming to meetings because nothing constructive happens and they have better things to do.
I'm more into a semi regular get together, maybe at a different location each time.

I say we forget about the club altogether.
We meet on Sat. or Sun. and have a coffee and then ride.
It is all about riding right!!
Or is it all about who belongs to the club or who does not!
I bought a Vespa so I can ride with my friends and that's the bottom line. Everything else does not matter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is there a list somewhere of "all the whoa's of a President of a scooter club in Kelowna"? We should post a link to it so as to edumacate prospective candidates.
Sorry to hear you think you're resigning, Bruce.

Here's a list of what a President has to do:
Most clubs are organized in a basic club format with officers or leaders performing their duties in a very similar manner. Clubs may use different titles for their leaders, but the duties and responsibilities are basicallythe same. The following is a list of typical duties and responsibilities for a position that may meet the needs of most clubs but may require some variation or tailoring depending upon the type and organization of the club. CLUB PRESIDENT • Presides over all meetings of the Club and the Board of Directors. o Emcee the Club meetings, dances, and other functions. o Chair the Club Business Meetings. o Assures the preparation and distribution of an Agenda for all meetings in advance. 2. Conducts the business of the Club. • Conducts business in accordance with the current Club Constitution, ByLaws and established Policies and Procedures. • Signs all correspondence in the name of the Club. • Promotes accepted square dance practices within the Club. • Develops and promotes plans and policies to ensure the well-being of the membership. • Confirms via correspondence the following items: Rental arrangements for the dance facility for regular Club dances and meetings. Rental arrangements for class facilities. Contracts with Club Caller/Cuer and Special Dance Callers. Notification of the change of officers to appropriate organizations and publications. Establish/maintain Club calendar (1, 3, 6, or 12 month) Implement telephone committee actions for emphasis of Club events, program changes and emergency actions. 3. Appoint or reappoint Committee Chairmen and assign such duties as necessary to further the aims and activities of the Club. 4. Assure the members of the Board of Directors are completely briefed and involved in absolutely everything the Club is doing. 5. Promote and support special Club social activities to maintain membership interest, involvement and retention. Club Visitations, Exhibitions, Theme Dances (July4th, Hobo, Valentine), Parties, Area and State Festivals and Conventions, CharityEvents, Fun Badge Activities, Leadership Classes. 6. Support Area and State square dance organizations, festivals, conventions and activities. 7. Participate in all Club functions. • Assure that dance facilities are opened at least 30 minutes prior to start of function. • Assure facilities are ready for the function (utilities, chairs, tables, banner, bulletin board, literature, handouts, flyers, etc.) at least 15 minutes prior to start time. •Assist in welcoming the members and guests. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Page 2 • Plan for and make announcements as required to pass on Club information and related square dance events, introduce guests and visiting dancers, recognize visiting Area and State Officers and VIPs, recognize the performance and special achievements of the caller, taw, Club members and other individuals as appropriate. • Assist in bidding farewell to the members and guests as they depart. • Assure facilities are secured (cleaned up and locked) at end of the function. 8. Supervise activities of other Club officers to assure they are performing their duties and responsibilities in the best interests of the Club. 9. Assure that a Club Newsletter is prepared and distributed to all Club members periodically (monthly). 10. Set an example for other officers and Club members to follow to include, dress, badge, promptness, enthusiasm, knowledge of the square dance community activities, etc. Your Training Investment Pays Long-Term Dividends!
Sounds like lots of fun, doesn't it!

I don't recall you promoting nor supporting our Hobo themed dance. And frankly your knowledge of the square dance community activities could not be worse. I could never figure out why you were so stressed about your "duties" - Now I know how much you actually weren't doing.

Hey, it's not my fault that you didn't bother to attend any of the square dances. Jerry enjoyed them (a bit to much if you ask me).

I say forget about any club. They are a waste of time.
All everybody does is bitch and complain about what everybody else is doing.
I'm sick and tired of it,and do not want anything to do with it anymore.
Everybody should shutup and ride, after all that is why we ride Vespas in the first place!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, screw the club. Let's just ride. Terry set up a user group so we can send each other messages and organize rides.

HEy what about this. Instead of a user group(cause some of us don't get near computers everyday) why don't we set aside one day a month and meet and talk about scooters and invite people that maybe like scooters too and we can plan rides then, and maybe even set up some events say in the summer to invite other scooter people too and have a good old time.
And just to make it easier for reconition sake we could call ourselves something like "Bruces Bitch's" Sorta like 'Hogans Heros' but not really.
So let's all get together and we can armwrestle til we come to an agreement(dibs on Les or has he given notice as well)
And I promise to only bitch and complain about what Darrel(peeman) is doing or not doing.

I don't know what your guys problem is with the VCoC or with your local Club. Except for a complaint from one of you guys about the theme of the Vancouver rally and our rally events I haven't heard about any real issues recently you guys have with the VCoC.
I have said it before and I say it again...nobody is forced to be a member of the VCoC. In case there is still an issue about the dues the members in the Okanagan pay to the VCoC....I can give you the details...but rest assured the VCoC donated more money to Rally DeVine than we received from membership dues coming from members in the Okanagan. It may not always be like that, but people complaining about money going to the VCoC that you want to keep in Kelowna...that is at this point a very weak argument.
You are all able to make you own choices. You can decide to be part of a local Club and that local Club can be affiliated with the VCoC or not. Your choice.
I believe in a National Club that helps with the communication across the local Clubs or branches. A National Club that helps new Clubs start where there wasn't a Club before. We are still at the beginning of making this National Club happen...you can all be part of it and decide which way it will go.
I am very proud of all the volunteers in the local Clubs that worked hard to put up rallys this year. For the first time we had 5 rallys this year that were supported by the VCoC. I think that was a great accomplishment. You can argue whether this would have happened without the VCoC. I believe some of the first year rallys would not have happened (at least not this year).
I have met great people at each of the rallys and some of them are friends now, so that friendship and connection is something that I think is an important part of the Club.
I can't disagree with you if you say that getting together for rides is important to you. It's the same for me too and I think it is for most of us. I don't understand though where the Club would be in the way of going on rides.
Regardless of what your decision is. I would love to see some people continue what has been started in Kelowna. Whatever the Club's name is, it is not important to me. Keep on riding together...meet periodically...have fun, help each other with scooter problems.
If you decide that you don't want to be a member of the VCoC anymore....that is your choice. You don't have to go on about it forever as if anybody is putting chains on you. Just have the decency to leave this forum and not make use of the free resources we provide to members and those interested in the Club. It is one thing to make a personal choice to leave the Club, but it is another to bitch about it using a forum that is paid by the VCoC. It definitely shows the character of some people.
Roy.
