I have been doing some research on starting a Toronto chapter and have found that we may need a few smaller chapters. The Toronto chapter should be Toronto and surrounding area, including Mississauga. The London chapter should be London and surrounding area. The Burlington chapter should be Burlington, Hamilton, Niagara. and Kitchener Waterloo chapter and surrounding area. Check the map to see what I mean. [ftp]http://scoot.net/gallery/bbs/mapto.bmp[/ftp] The reason I say this is because we have Vespa shops spread across Ontario, from Ottawa to London.

:DBut lets get the Toronto chapter started first. Another question I got was if the VCoC(T) would be open for other makes of scooters, Lambretta etc.

I dont know if youve noticed but alot of us who are members in BC are also Lambretta owners. This is a club for enthusiasts(sp) as well as for owners.

Thanks Scotty! Yes I agree that it would be great to have a number of branch clubs formed in Ontario. Due to the great promotion this summer with Vespa Canada, the club has a number of new members in different cities, and it would be nice to have branches nearby to arrange rides, etc. The Vespa Club of Canada is made up of people who appreciate Vespas. Some may currently ride Lambrettas, Vinos, or whatever. Most likely have or are planning to get a Vespa. But the only requirement to joining the club (and therefore any branch) is a desire to "promote and preserve Vespa in Canada" Membership entitles one to 4 issues of the newsletter "Indicator" per year, membership in the FIV, access to member only areas of the club web site, a VCoC membership package, discounts on VCoC merchandise, and some discounts at Canadian scooter shops. Membership money sent to the National club is used to print the newsletters, maintain the web site, purchase merchandise for sale, and provide membership packages. The national club also provides some support for branch rallies. Contrary to the belief of some, none of these funds are used to support any Vancouver branch events. Those (like any other branch events thru the country) are supported through local fund-raising. The purpose in encouraging the formation of smaller branch clubs is to provide local support for scooterists in those areas. Tech help can be provided somewhat on forums such as this one, but hands on help from fellow riders in ones area is what can strengthen a persons love for these bikes, and form a real community. Also having regular local rides makes ownership fun, and helps our goal of "promotion and preservation". Please don't be shy to direct any questions either to me personally, or here on the forum. And good luck! Curt Ellis

I think we may have something here. I put a post on to_scooters@yahoogroups.com, and got eight replies saying that they would join or help get thing's started. I will contact them and see if we can get together to discuss the Toronto chapter. It's coming together, be passionate.

I just purchased an LX 150. I'm in for meeting some London riders or trying to get things started here.

I wish you guys good luck. There are limitations on what we can do out here in the West to help you, but if you have any questions or want some advice, please don't hestitate to ask.
You can alwayts reach me via email at president @ vespaclubofcanada dot com.
By the way, Ron Hillman re-opened Vespa Vancouver and his brother Bob is the store manager here in Vancouver now. Ron also owns the London, Ontario store.
I will keep in touch with Bob and maybe with the connection to the London, Ontario store we can get in touch with Ron as well and see what kind of support we can get you this way. It might be a start asking Ron to have our membership forms in the store and a poster to spark some interest in the Club so that a few more people will find us. I'll have a chat with Bob / Ron about it.
I'll keep you posted.

I just purchased an LX 150. I'm in for meeting some London riders or trying to get things started here. hey all London riders. There is already a scooter club in London called the Dogs Bollocks. We've been active for several years. We are always welcoming to new members and as a rule are a very decent bunch of lads and lasses. Our annual rally is coming up on July 22nd weekend in Port Burwell. check out www.myspace.com/dogsbollockssc for all the details. or you can email me at covergaauw@johnhowardsarnia.com This can be to the attention of anyone in Toronto who might be interested in coming out to the rally. It gets bigger and bigger every year with quite a few folks coming up from Windsor, Detroit, Cleveland, and Toronto. Cheers Court

There is a scooter rally on July 15 in Toronto. Perhaps this a good place to discuss the possibility of starting a Toronto chapter. View details here... www.torontovintage.com/
