Would you say that any of those rides are (more) suitable for us 50 cc peeps? I am breaking Enzo in to be a bit quicker, but there's no highway and no North Shore bridges in my future. I nearly explode on the Cambie Bridge as it is.
Great to see a schedule, so thanks from me, too, Bernd!

You must have put 500k on Enzo by now havent you? Beyond that...I understand no highway riding, but why is a bridge a problem unless it is attached to a highway?
Curious because if I want to get anywhere at all....I have to go over a bridge somewhere and I dont have any problems with them.
take care Delia

actually that is a very good idea. Bernd (are you listening), i often hear this same comment from many, of 'bridge fear'. a bridge is just another road, except, usually elevated. it is safer since there are no side streets intruding. how about an evening ride (newbie speed) back and forth over a few bridges. of course there is safety in numbers, and we could sandwich db in the middle of the group. once you actually go over a few bridges, you will find that they are just another uneventful road.
perhaps the scooter beach ride (July 9, or Aug 6) could leave Continental, Venables, over Dunsmuir Viaduct, left turn Beatty, over Cambie Bridge, right turn Broadway, Right turn Hemlock over Granville Bridge take seymour exit, cloverleaf to Pacific Blvd, left turn over Burrard Bridge then Cornwall etc to Scooter beach, then reverse route taking Georgia Viaduct back to Commerecial drive. this would give you 8 bridge crossings.

Hey, Delia I do! I have almost 1000 km on Enzo now ^_^ The reason is that for whatever reason, it takes me a looong time to get up to 60 kph (and then compound that with a hill), and if it's windy, I don't really like to go any faster than that (my windshield I think makes me catch more wind than the average Vespa). Of course cars go 70 or 80 on these bridges, and it doesn't take them 15 or 20 seconds to get there or whatever it takes me to get to cruising altitude I've ridden over the Cambie bridge in rush hour twice now, and I really felt like I was taking my life in my hands. I take a long way through Chinatown to get to work as I do enough swearing on the Dunsmuir Viaduct in my car... I am getting better and more confident and everything, I'm just cautious by nature maybe. Bobskoot, that's some crazy ride! LOL I appreciate the thought. I do feel safer in numbers with you guys, although I hate to feel like I'm holding other people up. If other underpowered people wanted to do something like that, it would be great! Some of it's mileage, right, I have exactly 996 km on a Vespa in my entire life. Still a n00b. Sigh. As for the sandwich...I have no comment at this time LOL

Hey db
I do have to agree that a 50 cc without a kit installed is a bit daunting when cars are whizzing past you at warp speed and way past the speed limit most of the time. I remember that from when I was first riding and before the kit.
Right now I am a slow-b because I am breaking in a new kit on Ms Daisy, so it's 50 km/hr for me for another 300K. The only time I feel nervous going slower is when I am not even doing the speed limit and I know I am slowing down traffic, but you know what? They can always pass me. I do keep a keen eye in my mirrors to make sure I dont have any lunatics with scooter-rage behind me, but for the most part, drivers drive by and seem to like the daisies hehehe. If I am holding up a speeder, I could care less.....they can either pass me or wait for an opportunity to pass me. While we have to be extra careful on a scoot, not everyone is out to run us over.
I will do a bridge ride with you all....need the km's.....and then I get to do this all over again when I get my smallframe....good grief.
Oh well.....something to look forward to ;D

db & . . . et, al
something that i have been practising in the car a lot. I have reduced to "scooter speed". everywhere i have to go, when i have to use 4 wheels, i try very hard to keep things around 60km max (ie scooter speed). there are too many fast, aggressive drivers out there. that's the reason the police are targeting this problem, esp on Knight street. once the message gets out to the general public that the police are serious about lowering the speeds, tailgaiting, etc. then it will be safer to scoot around.
i know that a lot of "other" scooterists from the TNG groups feel a little intimidated about joining our rides, since they feel that they cannot keep up. It's always the topic of concern. even before i joined the VCoC I would meet the group at the Continental (to socialize), but didn't feel comfortable to go on the rides because of trying to keep up. Well . . . you don't have to be concerned. on a group ride, the group goes the speed of the slowest scooter, no one will ever be left behind to fend for themselves, unless of course, it is a specific ride to a specific destination for that purpose. and even then, if there is a group which feels that they would like to go slower, then we could always split into fast and slow groups (with corresponding route changes).
bob
ps: DB i hear that you are an excellent baker. forget the sandwiches.

***Ride Meeting Place Change Announcement!***
This Sunday's ride (July 23/06) will meet at Continental Coffee, rather than Vespa Vancouver as originally advertised. This is to accommodate the Rally Committee meeting that is scheduled to happen at Empire Scooters immediately before.
Sorry for any confusion or inconvenience. The August 20/06 White Rock ride will meet at Vespa Vancouver instead.
Cheers, -B

Hello all...after a one week rain delay, Sunday September 24th will be our second annual Bowen Island Pizza Run. Those that came last year will remember the great weather, great riding and the awesome food at Tuscany Pizza on Bowen Island. This year we'll leave Continental Coffee on Sunday, September 24th at 1pm SHARP to catch the 2:35 ferry in Horeseshoe Bay. There will be one gas stop at the Shell station in Ambleside...North Shore types can meet us there at 1:30pm. There will be no highway driving on this route, so 5cc'ers are more than welcome. The fare (with bike) to Bowen is appoximately $25 return. The menu for Tuscany Pizza is available at: www.tuscanypizza.com/Please note that large pizzas easily feed two people. Reservations are essential, so please PM me (black_art) or post here if you will be coming. I'll need to update the restaurant with our final numbers. We will likely return to the mainland around 8-9pm and return to the city via Marine Drive through West Vancouver.

Hello Bowen Pizza Runners...
The Sunday weather forecast has changed dramatically a number of times already this week, and will likely change again. Please check back here on Friday and Saturday and I'll make a call on whether to proceed or postpone. If this Sunday, September 17th doesn't fly, we'll try again for Sunday September 24th and so on until we get reasonable weather.
Please check below for weather updates. -B
