Oh and Roy, or Derrick It's not just the deck height thats different, the combustion chamber has a smaller volume on euro heads.

yeah but i think youl fing that, one youve skimmed the head if you then measure the volume of the head it will have reduced, because you skimmed the head.

yeah but i think youl fing that, one youve skimmed the head if you then measure the volume of the head it will have reduced, because you skimmed the head. Depends on what you are skimming. If all you are doing is taking some material off the mating/gasket surface then you won't really be decreasing the heads volume as the combustion chamber size is still the same and you still have the same squish profile/size. All you would really be doing is decreasing the squish clearance. This would raise the compression a tad which usually increases performance, but be careful. If you reduce the squish clearance by too much ( 1mm is the minimum on a road bike) you run the risk of the piston hitting the head at high RPMs. Also if the compression is too high you run the risk of running to0 hot and blowing a hole in your piston or a seizing up. What is DD hoping to do? If it's just trying to get the performance of a early euro p200/rally 200 then it might be best to just track down a Rally 200 head. If he wants to boost the performance beyond that, there is a bunch of things that can be on a stock 200 barrel to increase it's out put. Here's a zip file full of tips and tricks for stock 200s, it's in German but still pretty cool: http.www.postaremczak.de%2Froller%2Fsonstiges%2Frepanleitungen%2FO-Tuning_fuer_Dummies_v1.1.zipTim

While you can skim a US head to get the same compression as a euro, the internal geometry of a euro head is still different... The angle of the squish band is shallower The combustion chamber (the actual bowl part of the head) has a smaller diameter and is not as deep. You can weld and re-profile a US head to match, but it is easer and cheaper to buy one.
