so i brought my project GS home tonight and started looking through it.....it has no papers so I'm gonna have to go through ICBC.......I started searching around the body for vin and couldn't find it.......I checked on scooterhelp.com and they say it's *supposed* to be stamped on the lip of the glovebox opening in the frame......i checked......there's no sign of rub out or anything....no indentation AT ALL........so what gives?......am I kinda fekked?....or is it possible it resides somewhere else on the frame....or did i stumble across a factory racer ;-)
help please and thanks rouso the excited

look at the lip on the bottom of the frame underneath the panel.

www.scooterhelp.com/serial/vespa.serial.locator.htmlit could be *either* of... the wide frame on the upper lip of the centre door... (often almost completely rusted away) or it could be '60's large frame placement... (where mine is) just above the rolled lip on the toolbox cowl side... (if you can't find it on the outside... look for the stamping indentations on the inside)

the lovely folks at ICBC made me re-VIN mine... as they required 2 (count 'em two) VIN stampings of the same #... which Vespas don't have.
So you have to get a shop to VIN it. pain in the a$$... and time consuming... but straightforward.

i finally found the vin last night with the help of an pencil eraser...it looks like *someone* tried to remove the vin......hmmmm....having a friend do a check on it to see if it was ever stolen...also it turns out that it isn't a 1959 but infact a 1961 according to the scooterhelp website vin search...still a VS5 though!.....it was located on the rolled edge of the frame under the left panel....
