As for the Indicator, and the Editor position, I have to make a tough choice, and have deliberated over it for some time now, but I feel that I must resign. There are several reasons for this, and I will list them here:
1. One minor concern was the shift to 'pdf only' newsletters for the VCoC that was necessitated by the significant drop in registration fee. It was a decision that I was not aware of when I signed up, and I was a bit disappointed in that revelation. I felt I came up with a reasonable way around it, but so far there hasn't been tons of interest to justify the extra work on my part.
2. I have made a few not so subtle pitches on the forum for content for the mag. I have also sent PMs to several people for photos, and not one person has responded to them. It reinforces to me that the VCoC members don't really have a strong desire to contribute to or receive a newsletter, and since I live a long ways away from most of the 'scooter centers' I must lean on people who are able to attend more events and rallies. I can't even report on club meetings or weekly rides without soliciting someone to do that for me... which leads me to my next point:
3. As a scooterist in the Kootenays, I feel very isolated from the rest of the community. If I had years and years of experience to draw from (like SeanS in Trail) I think this would be a surmountable challenge, but in truth, since I have less than a year's experience on a scooter, and have never attended a rally or even ridden with another scooterist yet, I don't feel that I have a firm enough grasp on the ups and downs of scootering to really be able to write and edit with integrity. Basically, if I were to write stuff, i'd have to make shit up. And I don't want to do that. I think I will be more effective and open to it in a few years after going to a few rallies.
4. The last (and probably the biggest) reasons are that my young daughter (6 months) and son (2 years) take up quite a bit of my time, as well as a business that is growing rapidly since Christmas and requires my attention. I feel I owe it to my family and my business partner to focus on those right now, and therefore I just don't have time to do a good job of the Indicator. These changes are more recent, and when I let my name stand for the position, I did not anticipate this rapid growth in my business.
I am very sorry for the delay, I did try to start several times, but ran into these walls again and again. I think the responsible thing for me to do is to give this position back to the club to fill if there is someone with the time and desire and ability to do it. Thank you for nominating me, I feel bad for not giving you any return on that investment. I am happy to pass on the 'stash' of indicators to the next person, and will be glad to write an article about scooting in the Kootenays if that editor so desires. Thank you all for your understanding, and I hope to see you all at a rally this year.
I would also cosider trying to be the editor again in a few years, with a bit more experience and once I am a bit more connected.
thanks for you understanding.
