Hello folks...
This rain is making me crazy. Crazy for scooters.
I've been thinking about riding some time when there isn't an inch of water on the pavement....like may some time in the Spring, which leads me to the Spring Opener...
Does anyone have any ideas about what they would like to do for the Sunday Ride Opener?
When?
Where?
For how long?
We went West last year, maybe this year we can go east? How about SOUTH? LET'S INVADE THE USA!
Okay, I think I'm rambling.
Ideas?
Thanks,
Christian

Meh. I'll pass on the USA with its Gestapo Border Guards.
Maybe a daylong ride to Belcarra/Bunzen lake area to start? Pic-a-nic baskets, Boo-Boo!

Whistler would be fun... no *water* on the road...
and Dennis can sell us all studded snow-tires.

I know it main be a pain in the arse but I would LOVE to do the Chuckanut for the first ride of the season. Been dreaming about riding that road for a couple of years now. www.chuckanutdrive.com/ such breath taking views and amazing winding curvy roads. Thanks to Simone for introducing me to this ride I just can't wait to do it on two wheels. Cheers, Bonnie

Can we do Chuckanut in a day or would that require camping/hotel etc? Looks nice, but I cant make out how far it is.

I think for the spring opener, a ride into the states might be a bit of a pain, but that said, I too enjoyed the Chukanut ride, and would love to do it again.

What with the 'Special' i.d. cards on the table, and boarder guards shooting up the place, I'm not sure I'm so eager to head into Washington either. Somewhere dry and sunny would be great - Fort Langley's not a bad idea. But i don't know enough about good rides to make an actual suggestion.

I heard '0' Avenue (?) along the border is supposed to be a nice ride. We would be south, going east and would not have to cross the border. ;D Anybody done that ride and have any comments?
I like the Fort Langley idea. Also a very nice country side ride. Plus we could do BBQ in the park.
One of my favourites is riding along River Road.
Anyway, keep up the brain storming. We'll have a committee meeting next week where we discuss/organize the Spring Opener. We'll definitely consider all your suggestions.

I'd probably say no thanks to a border crossing also...some alternative ideas:
*Whiterock *Mission/Abbotsford/Aldergrove *Ladner/Westham Island *Porteau Cove *Belcarra (suggested by Tegan and seconded) *Deep Cove/Cates Park
A lot depends on how much ridin' versus bbq'in we want to do.

hi guys.....i live in Langley and have ridden 0 ave a lot....it's a great way to get out to the valley on a beautiful country road. speed limits are 50k and then 60k as you go further east. The only nuisance on 0 avenue is imbecilic "traffic calming devices" (read speedbumps) where every other street intersects. You have to reduce your speed a little or stand up off the seat while taking these bumps. When you're getting closer to Abbotsford/Mt. Lehman area, 0 ave turns sharply northward. About half a click later, you can turn right and head east again up the valley on 8th ave. 8th is kind of a commercial truck route and feels fairly easy going. You'll cruise through the old industrial part of Abbotsford with the Sumas Huntingdon border crossing to your right. 8th ave becomes Vye road and heads towards Chilliwack, Cultus Lake, Columbia valley, and Chilliwack lake. You can zigzag along the mountains (cultus lake is just on the other side) where the old BC Electric railway runs....there's a cool old dracula's castle substation beside the road. You can cut through Yarrow up to Cultus or Vedder River, or there is a nice bridge over the Vedder Canal about a kilometer south of the highway 1 bridge....this puts you on Keith Wilson road which takes you into Vedder Crossing. There are just dozens of cool directions you can take once you're there......lots of gas stations, restaurants, neighbourhood pub with lots of parking. Some very nice relaxing rides out in this part of the country.....

another thought.....if you're in fort langley, i think it was 88th that i took that will get you all the way out to Glen Valley near Abbotsford. There's lots of cool roads crisscrossing the valley and a nice picnic site beside the Fraser River.
Another cool ride is you'd come out to the upper Sumas Prairie like in the 0 ave post, then turn north on Whatcom road and take the overpass over highway one......there's gas and food there. Then head east again on the access road that parallels highway 1 until you get to Clayburn (I think that's what the area is called.....used to be a big brick making place there.) This road will take you up and along the entire length of Sumas Mountain.... mostly paved with some decent packed gravel road as well. Totally beautiful alpine scenery and great valley views......

Heres one...Meet at The Wild Duck, take old Dewdney through farmland and past the Fruit Winery(awesome cranberry wine) cut over at 207th, take River past the Billy Miner, past the Albion ferry, 240th to 102...Take 102 to 272, head back to Dewdney Trunk follow that past the lakes and around the back way into Mission.
Its a beautiful ride and takes about an hour. Wicked Brew Pub in Mission...

Spring? You guys are talking about spring already? ack. That is in late Feb/March right? I'll be moving back next year...and I can't wait for early spring! (It is in June/July here in Calgary...thats right.....we have to wait that long for the snow to go away...and thegravel to be removed from all the streets....ick.) I am envious. Next time I visit, i am hauling my scoot out and joining you all.
