Hello everyone...
I know it's still months away, but now's a good time to start requesting that time off from work (if you need to).
AMERIVESPA-SEATTLE! July 12th (Thursday) - July 15th (Sunday)
I will be riding down. I plan on leaving Thursday morning. I hope to be able to leave around 7 AM. Natasha will likely be following in a support vehicle late that day to pick up any stragglers. Anyone who is planning on riding down from Vancouver is welcome to join me. As the date gets closer, I'll post an exact leaving time and location, along with the route. I plan to take it nice and slow and enjoy the ride. (No I-5 if possible, sorry Rocket)
It's likely that the other Daggers will help with the organization of the ride, but we haven't hammered out exactly who intends to go.
Of course, if you have any route suggestions, you're welcome to discuss it with me personally.
I encourage anyone planning on attending from outside of Vancouver, (Edmonton, Calgary, Kelowna, this means you!) to join us for the ride. Anyone coming in from out of town is welcome to crash at my house for a couple of nights preceding the ride if necessary. You can also leave your trailer and vehicle at my place if you'd like.
Again, I understand that it is quite early to start thinking about a rally in July. However, given the potential scale of this rally, I assure you this is not one to be missed.
Take an extra day off or so, grow a sack, and join me for the ride down.
Okay, so who's considering riding down?
Christian

Roy will likely ride down ... What do you mean 'likely'? If I get the time off to go (which is still looking that way at this point) I WILL ride down. Don't want to miss that rally for sure. Come on, when will be the next time a rally such as Amerivespa will happen so close to us? Let's ALL go, and if your scooter can make the trip, lets ride it down to Seattle! Whether Daggers, WSCE, GVVR, or VCoC, or anything else you like to call yourself....let's organize a ride from Vancouver down to Seattle. Christian, please keep posting your plans...sure we can sort things out in time.

if your scooter can make the trip, thats funny, its just down the frigging road,
yep im taking the coast road to, terry derek and i did it last year, we met up with the bellingham lot, and a few others and rode through, tree lined country roads with awesome coastal views at about 70 clicks, but thursdays a bit early for me, if i go on my own il hit the freeway, but would love a coastal ride for sure. btw if you think your scooter could make it but cant [ and im just as likely to break down as anyone else] im sure christian and i can help out as long as your not taking the piss for a free rebuild.. hey christian?

THE BASIC ROUTE IS:
Canada Way > Tenth (New West) > McBride > Patella Bridge > Surrey > 99A King George Hwy > 112th L>104th R>152nd 99A King George Hwy L> 8th Avenue Onto 176st (HWY 15) to Truck Crossing ( If there is a line up go to duty free store (go to the cash register and buy an ice cream ($2.00) - eat ice cream and jump the line up >
@ BLAINE GAS STOP
R at D Avenue in Blaine follow to the water (Peace Portal Drive aka 548) to Ferndale R> Hovander Dr. L> on W Smith R> drive under I95 > R onto NW Road becomes North West Avenue (Bellingham) > Elm Street > Dupont > Prospect L> Flora >R@ North State Street Start Looking for Callaloo Caribbean Kitchen at 1212 N. State Street Bellingham (Caribeean Rest. Owned By Todd Q. ( a SOB-hosted the rally last year) Have a bite and a drink.
Follow N State to Boulevard becomes State becomems 11th becomes Finnegan Way becomes 12th Street becomes Chuckanut (It gets awesome right about now)
Follow south - enjoy the view - amazing ride- Follow under I5 at Chuckanut Junction (Burlington) > R @ South Burlington Blvd.
@ MOUNT VERNON GAS STOP LOTS OF THEM (Holy Crap is it going to be like this the rest of the way?) >L @ College Way (Hwy 538) 1km after crossing the bridge - head East Becomes Hwy 9 (merge South) - travel South (Nope, farms, lakes, serious windy road, great stretch of road)
GAS STOP ALONG THE WAY (As it starts to get crappy again)
@ Woodenville R at 180th THIS ONE"S IMPORTANT >L @ 527 Bothell Everett Hwy R@NE Bothell Way which is/becomes 522 >L@ Roosevelt Way North East (Stop at Cafe Racer 5828 Roosevelt Way NE, Seattle and ask someone what's going on) You are now in the U District
A point of interest - On a P200 and taking the I5 you can make it from the U District to Mount Vernon on one tank of gas - and from Mount Vernon to North Vancouver on one tank of gas
NOTE: That's the easy part. Agreeing on the time to leave is the real work. I expect there will be Thursday and Friday sailings.
You want your bike to be in good mechanical shape and you want good tires.
ALSO: Hotel choices coming next week.

I recommend the space needle travelodge, used to get 67. for a 2 queen bed room, AAA disc. for 4 thats cheap as it gets - its in the middle of downtown, has a pool & hot tub, cont. brek and a night clerk who looks the other way.

I did some discount rate searches, etc... and this is what I got, that I have not already posted, for the entire Seattle area for July 12 to 15. It appears that the $65.00 room in Seattle has pretty much gone the way of the $5.00 haircut. Inn at Queen Anne I know nothing about it, but it is near the Key Arena (Space Needle). $89.00 night 505 First Avenue N SEATTLE, WA 98109 206-282-7357 www.innatqueenanne.com/Map: www.innatqueenanne.com/page1089.aspGeorgetown Inn 6100 Corson S Seattle, WA 98108 (206) 762-2233 maps.google.ca/maps?hl=en&q=6100%20Corson%20S%20Seattle%2C%20WA%2098108&btnG=Google+Search&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&um=1&sa=N&tab=wlI called and they have no reservations for July. Two beds for $93.57 (one queen $85,.95), although these are last year's rates. Close to Big People's Scooters. I've changed my reservation to this one. (Thanks Simone) So if you are thinking that some place will be available a week before Amerivespa it won't. BOOK NOW, if you get a room or a floor, CANCEL LATER.

This is the place I was talking about:
Georgetown Inn at 6100 Corson Ave S is two blocks from Big People Scooters. (206) 762-2233. Also the Pine City Inn is real close at 6188 4th Ave S., (206) 767-7890.
I haven't booked anything yet as I wanted to stay where the rest of the van gang is staying so if you're at the Eight Ave then we'll book there too.

I've booked for Georgetown Inn. They have lots of rooms. I'm holding a reservation on Eighth Ave Inn until the dust settles.
The number for Pine City Inn was disconnected.
Does anybody else have an opinion?
Once again, thanks Simone for the tip on Georgetown Inn.

Here is the Georgetown website. Although the website says they are 1.6km from the Space Needle, the staff says they are about a 20 min drive from there. Their set summer rates if you are a AAA member is $79 for queen bed (no kitchen etc) or $83 for a king (no kitch) www.georgetowninnseattle.com/The Eighth is a 10-15 min drive to the space needle depending on traffic (is what they told me.) I am only using the space needle as a point of reference since I am not that familiar with Seattle.

Eighth Ave Inn is 8 small blocks from the Needle (which means a 15 minute walk), a two minute drive. At least it was when I stayed there (I don't think they added any blocks since). The rooms are basic. If events are going to be held in the U District, at the Market, Bell Town, Shoreline, Queen Anne, Freemont etc... the location is better.
The Georgetown Inn is 15 minutes from the Needle. Although Rocket and Terry and Mark and I made it from the U District to George Town in 15 minutes (which is a much longer ride). It is 5 minutes from Safeco Field, 15 minutes from my favourite barbeque place, 2 minutes from Big People Scooters, which is where the gymkhana was held at last year's Insanity. I know nothing about the rooms. If the events are Georgetown, Alki, Burien, South Seattle, International District, then this location is better.

I'm all about the Georgetown inn. Hitting the sauna after a boozy night rocks! And free laundry! The other advantage is that the roads are pretty quiet in that direction at night.
Dare I see if the jacuzzi room is available? Will we be able to sleep in the same room were unspeakable jucuzzi tub horrors will happen?

Just one more thing: The Mariners have a home game everyday of Amerivespa. Everyday.
I am totally for the Georgetown Inn. I will be happy to try it.
Remember this: Mariners Baseball everyday. Georgetown Inn very close to Safeco Field. So, one final word of warning: BOOK NOW. IF YOU FIND A ROOM OR A FLOOR BEFORE AMERIVESPA, CANCEL THEN. DO NOT EXPECT TO FIND MOTEL/HOTEL ROOMS IN SEATTLE ON A MARINER BASEBALL/AMERIVESPA WEEKEND AT THE LAST MINUTE UNLESS YOU WANT TO PAY SERIOUS COIN.

If you are a BCAA member, the rate for a room at Georgetown with one king is $90 US
They want you to be AAA, but will accept BCAA if that helps anyone.

We booked a queen room with a kitchen for $100.10 without AA discount. Hot Cookies in our room at 3am! Not the dirty kind of 'cookies' you perverts. Good thing I didn't offer Hot Brownies hey.............
And 2 queen beds is $99 FYI.
