Do to work that's come up I will now be driving down Friday late afternoon, probably close to 6pm, leaving from North Van (~Brooksbank/Marine). I was going to carpool, but now have an empty car. Would love to share gas, etc, if anyone is still looking to go down that late in the week. Open to getting a ride with someone else too if that's a possibility.

Hey all,
This weekend, I suggested to DD that it may be in our best interest to leave somewhat earlier from Empire. Given "Scooterist Time", we will likely have to add at least 20 minutes to the ride for each scooter that is riding with us. It is quite important to me that I make it to Seattle for the boozy cruisy. I also think we should give ourselves AS MUCH time as we can to ride down. This way, we don't have to rush, and won't feel guilty stopping for a beer every now and again, or for the first person to break down. Of course, there is also the unpredictablility of the border.
Given all these factors, I would suggest we LEAVE Empire no later than 8 AM, and plan on meeting there between 7 and 7:30 AM, GASSED UP AND READY TO RIDE!
Are people open to shifting our leaving time to 8 AM rather than 10 AM?
Speak up now, because we only have a few more days to work this out.
Thanks,
Christian

I am open to any leaving time. With the Apocolypse crew coming from Calgary maybe 8 a.m. is too early for them. Any other input from the riders ? Looking forward to a sunny hot ride .... Topcat

Calgary is still talking about it, but we're thinking it may be better and safer for Team Crashy to drive straight to Seattle, rather than all-night-drive and then several more hours on the scooter on the highway. This would also allow us the opportunity to stop and see Ron in the hospital on the way home ...
If we WERE still riding with you guys, 8 am would be tight, but it may be a non-issue. I'll check with Noel/Allie and see what the scoop is.

Whatever gets decided, please post it here - as I dont' want to show up at 10am and find people decided to leave at 8am. That would right piss me off.

North Vancouver to Renton (in South seattle) is 261 kms. At 60 km per hour = 4.3 hours. At 80 km/hr = 3.5 hours. Thursday the border wait will be negligble. Last Thursday at 11 a.m. there was no line up at the Truck Crossing. Unlike crossing on a Friday. 4 gas stops times 10 mintes each plus a fast lunch may ad an hour and a half. No pubs. We all agreed yesterday that we will eat at Taco Bell in Burlington/Mount Vernon. We are not stopping in Bellingham this year. I did not receive a response from anyone at SOB, so we have no meet up there. We're just passing through.
6 hours. 4 PM ETA. That leaves two hours of wiggle room.
Last year we made it at 6 but we wasted a lot of time North of the Border and in Belligham (socializing).
Registration does not start until 6 p.m.
Boat cruise starts at 8 p.m.
Christian, I am not going on a boat cruise, but I know there will be a ticket in my rally pack (I pre-registered early). It's yours if you need it.
I think stick with 10. If it get's gross, you can keep going. I do not expect the entire group to sit around for a breakdown. That is why we have some support.
But that said, I have no problem with 7:00 a.m. or 8:00 a.m. - all I would be doing is pacing around my house. Although I would like to avoid rush hour.
that being said:
THIS RIDE LEAVES ON TIME.
GAS UP BEFORE THE RIDE. THERE WILL BE NO GAS STOP UNTIL AFTER THE BORDER. BY ON TIME I MEAN START YOUT ENGINES AT 9:58.

I am open to whenever. Early is fine with me, just hope everyone gets the change notice so no one is left behind.
A bonus to leaving early is that we might beat some of the sweltering heat expected.?
I'll keep my eyes peeled for an official change notice.

O.K. - To recap: Curt, Caprice, Teri, Christian and I are all o.k. with an early start (I am assuming Kyle is up for early departure).
Calgary is out for an early start but they are on the fence regarding driving straight to Seattle.
We have yet to hear from Rocket & Roy, and/or anyone else who has decided to join us but not let us know about it.

Jan and I have had loose plans to meet up with the group at Empire for 10am. It's starting to make more sense for us to cross over from Abbotsford on our own schedule. This way we're not going out of our way or racing through all the traffic heading downtown.

I talked to Noel and because some of the bikes being trailered down are prone to break-downs, they've decided to trailer straight into Seattle.
We Calgarians riding are open to whatever happens.

Why don't we just leave it as planned - 10am we leave. Everybody does not check the forums all the time and it is currently set to leave at 10am. The route we have is really straight-forward and allows for gas stops / and if we are being followed by a support vehicle we should be just fine. This includes checking in @ our respective hotels /houses/crash pads...and haivng a clean up and getting ready for registration / and cruise if you are going. I can't leave any earlier than 8am as I have to walk Bella to Daycare and they don't open until 7:15 - I will be really pressed for time and don't wish to be left behind if traffic is hideous.

Ten o'clock sounds like a perfect time to start because the sun will almost be over the yard arm and it's a great time to start glove drinkin'

You guys decide what time you want to leave. Your call and whatever the decision is I will make sure it gets posted on the GVVR forum.
Delia and I will head to the border from Surrey without a stop at Empire in the morning.
We'll meet the group either at the border or somewhere along the ride.
